Termites: The Silent Threat to Facilities
Termites are silent destroyers that feed on wood, drywall, and other structural materials. In commercial and industrial facilities, their activity often goes unnoticed until costly damage is already done. Infestations weaken buildings, threaten safety, and disrupt operations. LanYap provides inspections, monitoring, and targeted treatments to stop termite colonies and protect your property’s long-term integrity.
Key Risks

Structural Damage
Colonies hollow out beams, floors, and walls, weakening a facility’s integrity.

High Repair Costs
Infestations often lead to expensive structural repairs and replacements.

Operational Disruption
Severe damage may require shutdowns for treatment and rebuilding.

Long-Term Risk
Without monitoring, termites return and create recurring infestations.
Common Termite Types
-
Eastern Subterranean Termites: The most widespread termite species in the U.S. and a major threat in Texas. They build large underground colonies and travel through mud tubes to reach wood inside buildings. Eastern subterranean termites feed around the clock, hollowing out structural supports, drywall, and flooring. Because they work silently, infestations often go unnoticed until major structural damage is already underway.
-
Formosan Termites: A highly aggressive subterranean species capable of forming colonies in the millions. Formosans consume wood faster than any other termite and are known to invade utility poles, landscaping timbers, and entire structural frames. Once established, their sheer numbers make them one of the hardest pests to eliminate, requiring professional inspection and control.
-
Western Drywood Termites: Unlike subterranean termites, drywood termites do not need soil contact. They live directly inside wood, furniture, and structural beams. Western drywoods are especially damaging in trim, door frames, and office furniture, where they leave behind small piles of frass (wood pellets). Because they remain hidden inside the wood they infest, they can cause severe localized damage before they’re ever detected.
